In April 2012, Marnie Stewart, our founding member and current Chairperson, was approached by Kaye Chapman from Cowra Community Chest to see if Marnie would be interested in forming a Community Chest in our region.  Marnie contacted various community groups to attend a public meeting held at the Cooma Monaro Historic Auto Club.  From this meeting the original committee was formed.  After a lot of hard work, The Community Chest Inc was launched in April of 2013 at the Raglan Gallery.  The founding members saw there was a need in our local community to assist those who had fallen on hard times.  Our first major fundraising event was held at the newly refurbished Cooma Hotel functions room with dinner and an auction.   Since then, our committee has grown to a very healthy 15 who are dedicated to helping those in need in our community.  We also have a dedicated team of volunteers who graciously give up their time to assist with our fundraising efforts.  We have held many events over the years, including our successful “Fashionation” in 2014, and most recently our 2019 Christmas in July dinner and auction night, we have established our “keeping kids in sport”, “early education” and “Arts & Academia” foundations. The sole purpose of these foundations is to foster, encourage and support families with the costs of supporting their children in the sporting and academic interests.  Our focus is not only on our school aged children.  We strongly support those in our community who have fallen victim to other perils in life including homelessness, domestic violence and significant health issues. As such we have recently announced our newest foundation “Mental Health & Wellbeing” this foundation is still in its infancy, we will update our members and this website as we obtain funding and organise resources for this initiative.
